Contribution Feature – Minor Change

Warpwire was successfully updated this morning to include audio support and a new contribution feature allowing non-owners to add media to libraries shared with them among the other improvements itemized in the previous Service Update. One minor change from the functionality described in the previous Service Update is that the contribution feature has been revised to default to “off,” since this is how all Media Libraries have worked to this point. If admins wish to allow non-admins to add media to a particular Media Library, they just need to check this box under Media Library Info that says, “Users with access can add media to this Library.”

 

Warpwire Update on Wednesday, April 8, 2015

An update to Warpwire is scheduled for our Wednesday, 4/8 maintenance window (6:00AM to 8:00AM). This update includes the following improvements and bug fixes:

  • Audio file support
  • Anyone with access to a Media Library will be able to add media to that Media Library (available to everyone by default, including students). Additionally, admins will have the ability to turn this functionality off (and on) for a particular Media Library — to prevent non-admins from contributing.
  • Better upload handling
    • Provides visual feedback to users once their uploads have been transferred to the server regarding the verification and processing steps
    • Better reporting when a user upload files of unsupported file type
    • Better recovery when using multiple uploads that allows for process to continue when one or more files fail to upload successfully
    • Better detection of lack of network connectivity and updates to the user messaging
    • Backend updates that prevents a HTTP error code 499 from being sent during very large uploads
    • Backend updates that spawns external jobs from the initial upload to prevent timeout issues from occurring during slow network/disk access conditions
  • Minor bug fixes/interface updates
    • Updates to improve the interface consistency across the site in Firefox
    • Fixed bug where authentication of API users was sometimes being denied
    • Removed the word “valid” from the sharing settings
    • Ensures that all reports use the same timezone (currently as defined by the server) to avoid inconsistent date ranges in reports
    • Resolved a permission check that prevented items from being removed from My Media

An update to Warpwire is scheduled for our Wednesday, 3/11 maintenance window (6:00AM to 8:00AM). This update includes the following improvements and bug fixes:

  • In-line Webcam/Camera Capture
  • Analytics Tool (for both users and super-admins alike)
  • Public Sharing
  • Sharing with Everyone at Duke
  • Text explaining search results
  • Tweaks for better upload handling

Warpwire Update on Wednesday, 1/28

An update to Warpwire is scheduled for our Wednesday, 1/28 maintenance window (6AM to 8AM). We do not expect this update to involve any down time for the service. This update includes the following improvements and bug fixes:

  • Moved “My Media” and “Shared with Me” from the Media Library view to top navigation menu

  • Updated the tooltip information in the navigation links

  • Updated and clarified the description for users who do not have any media shared in their default Media Library view

  • Tweaked alert error messages across the interfaces

  • The main Duke and Warpwire logo goes to the All Media Library view

  • Allow Media Libraries to be deleted from the “Media Info” pane

  • Deletion of Media Libraries created via Toolkits is disabled

  • A FERPA/HIPPA compliance notice is shown when users upload a single or multiple files, multiple file upload now shows the number of files to be uploaded

  • Increased the search results view to allow for 10 items to be shown at a time

  • Fixed issue where the “Search for users” text did not clear when clicking with the mouse

  • Group search now supports the standard Duke naming convention. E.g., “ARTHIST.101D.01D” and “ARTHIST 101D 01D” will return the same group

  • The group search now returns courses in descending order by course year

  • Added indicator in the user and group search to show when network activity is in progress and also show “No results” when no entries are returned

  • Updated support videos to reflect all interfaces changes

  • Fixed upload issue on Chrome Mobile where the upload status information was not being updated on load

  • Added support for Duke guest accounts

Video Functionality

  • Fixed issue with video playback in Firefox 35 for Mac

Sakai Changes

  • Removed the word “to LMS” from the Sakai plugin

  • The “Add” button was changed to “Add Media”

  • Added filmstrip icon to Warpwire left-side-menu tool button

Infrastructure Changes

  • Added health check monitoring to ensure that the Single Sign On service is functional

  • Added additional support to automatically restart and log failures during the uploading process

We do not expect this update to involve any down time for the service.

Video Playback Problem with Firefox 35.0

Firefox recently released an update (35.0) that has caused intermittent playback problems for Warpwire videos. When viewers click to play a video, the Warpwire logo screen loads, but the actual video does not play.

We plan to have a fix for this issue by Friday, January 23rd.  Until then there are two work-arounds to this issue:
  1. Use a different browser such as Chrome or Safari
  2. Manually advanced to the next video, by click the next button (see image below):
